Our Library’s History

The first publicly funded library in Sheboygan Falls was established in 1924 and has seen remarkable growth since. Starting from a single room in a tiny house on Pine Street with a few dozen books, we now occupy an 18,600 square foot facility housing almost 48,000 items across more than a dozen collections.

In the 1970’s Sheboygan Falls Memorial Library joined with public libraries in the county to facilitate resource sharing as the new Sheboygan County Federated Library system. Sheboygan County libraries then merged with Ozaukee County as the Eastern Shores Library System. In 2017 we merged again with the Dodge and Washington County libraries to become the Monarch Library System. Today our patrons can easily borrow over 2.3 million items from 32 libraries across the four-county system.

In 2024, we welcomed 50,991 visitors and circulated 99,663 items. Additionally, we loaned 17,150 eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eMagazines through the Libby eBook app. We continue to grow and move forward with the help of our Friends of the Library and the Board of Trustees, and with support from Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan County, and the State of Wisconsin.
